Pond Society announces PUBLIC PRIVATE, a two-part exhibition curated by Dr Jareh Das featuring Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Hayley Barker, Dominic Chambers, Hyegyeong Choi, Anthony Cudahy, Ulala Imai, Sarah Lee, Jonny Negron, GaHee Park, Sarah Slappey, Caroline Walker, and Michaela Yearwood-Dan.
PUBLIC PRIVATE surveys a cross-generation of 12 contemporary painters depicting intimate quotidian lives, interior spaces, nature and landscapes. The exhibition addresses themes relating to the intersection of the personal and public, intimacy and identity. Most striking is how each artist deftly deconstructs in their own way, academic techniques, art-historical references, cultural/pop culture, and figuration as reimagined astutely by this generation of painters. This allows painting and representative styles to emerge to create emotionally heightened narratives based on both lived and imagined experiences.
