Textiles from a personal and social perspective in the work of Nike Davies-Okundaye (essay)

PUBLISHED Oct 2022

I wrote an essay titled 'Textiles from a personal and social perspective in the work of Nike Davies-Okundaye' in response to curating Nigeria’s kó gallery presentation of the artist's early works at Frieze Masters London for the fairs' Spotlight section dedicated to pioneering women artists of the twentieth century.

My essay comments on familial crafts traditions passed down from one generation to the next highlighting key early works by Davies-Okundaye made between the 1960s to 1980s.
